1+ & 1?
I call this activity, 'One Positive, One Question,' it is perfect for the end of the first day or first week of school! It gives each child a chance to ask a question. The next day I go through the questions with the class (without naming names) and answer for the whole class to hear. It is a great way to make sure everyone is clear on expectations and also for the students to reflect on something they are looking forward to!
Black History Research Project
This is a great project for Black History Month or anytime of year! It can easily be modified for different grade levels or different ability levels within your classroom. Start by cutting the cards of the Important Black People from history (feel free to add or subtract names from the cards I provided). Put the cards in a paper bag and have each student pick a name. Students need to research their Important Black Person and complete the trading card. Your directions for how thoroughly they need to research, how many facts they need to list, etc will depend on your students’ abilities. You can display the Trading Cards in the classroom and/or have students present on their Important Black Person!
